With his picture book, “Los Angeles”, Berlin-based photographer and long-time collaborator of Spike Magazine, Christian Werner, presents a “dream journey“ that bears witness to the “tired affluent society” and “great fatigue” of the old, Western world, Süddeutsche Zeitung comments. Accompanied by literary interviews by long-time LA-resident and writer, Tom Kummer, the book just came out with Korbinian Verlag. For Spike, Werner selected a couple of images.

About the Author

The Berlin, Leica photographer Christian Werner (born 1977) works for many national and international magazines such as Zeit magazine or Numéro and clients such as SSENSE or 032c. His work focuses on long-term projects, which have already resulted in a number of books. Another of his books that have just appeared in Bonn. Atlantis der BRD (Bonn. Atlantis of the FRG). A series taken from this book appears in LFI 3.2019

CHRISTIAN WERNER lives in Berlin and is a photographer. He works for many national and international magazines, among them 032c, Numéro, ZEITmagazin, SSENSE, Sleek & Die Wetter. The focus of his work is on long-term projects, from which several books have already emerged. For example, Christian Werner previously dealt with the disappearance of the “old” Federal Republic (Stillleben BRD, Kerber Verlag 2016) and the urban plant world (The Flowers of the City, Suhrkamp 2018). His next publication is in spring, worked out together with Joachim Bessing Bonn. Atlantis of the FRG, which will be published by Matthes & Seitz.
