DJI Unveils the O3 Air Unit
The O3 Air Unit from DJI is a compact, lightweight, $229 FPV camera and transmission module kit for high-performance FPV drones.
While DJI has two pre-built first-person view (FPV) drones, the aptly titled FPV and the newer and less expensive Avata, the O3 Air Unit is designed to enable any other custom FPV drone, similar to GoPro’s approach to the market with its Hero10 Black Bones. It has a Type 1/1.7 sensor with an extremely wide 155-degree field of vision, allowing it to capture footage at up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
The idea behind the O3 Air Unit is to enable any FPV drone to provide pilots with the same camera and flight experience as DJI’s first-party drones, including the incredibly dependable connection and the ability to utilize DJI goggles. The O3 Air Unit makes use of DJI’s O3+ system, which can send a pilot a live 1080p video feed at 100 frames per second with a latency as low as 30 milliseconds from a distance of up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
The O3 Air Unit automatically chooses the best signal frequency and using what DJI refers to as “anti-interference technology” to maintain a strong connection to its pilot when the O3+ system detects a signal environment that is congested.
According to DJI, the O3 Air Unit was created in response to the needs of FPV aficionados who like personalizing their drones to suit their individual preferences. The on-screen display may be customized in Canvas mode, according to DJI, ensuring that pilots see the OSD that is most appropriate for them. The Air Unit is compatible with the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, DJI FPV Goggles V2, and DJI Goggles 2 for more viewing and control choices.
Speaking of eyewear, the DJI Goggles 2, which were first introduced in a set with the Avata, are now sold separately and work with the O3 Air Unit.
The Camera Module, Transmission Module, Antenna, and 3-in-1 Cable are all included in the price of the DJI O3 Air Unit, which is currently $229.
