DJI Releases First Cinema Grade Zoom Lens DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0 ASPH

DJI revealed the new DJI DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0, an ultra-wide power zoom lens for the full-frame Zenmuse X9 camera. It features an internal zooming and focusing mechanism, a constant aperture, and a lightweight, compact construction. During the zoom range, it maintains a constant maximum aperture of T3.0 (about f/2.8). T22 is the smallest aperture.

The lens has a minimum focus distance of 0.26m at 28mm and 0.19m at 17mm. The lens has 13 optical elements organized into 11 groups. An external focus motor or lens calibration is not required because of the inherent servo zoom motor. The DL PZ 17-28mm lens also internally adjusts the zoom without rebalancing.

This new zoom also uses the DL lens mount, just like current DJI prime lenses. The lens weighs about 520g and is made of an aluminum-magnesium alloy, making it suitable for the Zenmuse X9 head to maintain complete gimbal functionality. The lens is 100.1mm long and 78mm in diameter (117.2mm with the lens hood attached). The front filter has a 67mm diameter.

There are just four compact prime lenses with DL mount among the DJI lenses that are currently available:

  • DL-S 16mm f/2.8 ND ASPH
  • DL 24mm f/2.8 LS ASPH
  • DL 35mm f/2.8 LS ASPH
  • DL 50mm f/2.8 LS ASPH

They were created to function with the Super35 image sensor equipped Zenmuse X7 gimbal camera. Yet, only the 16mm is a Super35 lens (DL-S). The other three lenses can be used with the new Zenmuse X9 in the full-sensor mode because they are full-frame compatible and cover full-frame sensors.

As the zoom can be adjusted remotely, the new power zoom lens inevitably offers additional flexibility on the ultra-wide end.

The DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0 lens will be available for purchase, and the price has been set to $1,339.
