DZOFILM Unveils the Vespid Retro Prime Lens Set

The Vespid Retro is a brand-new collection of cinema prime lenses from DZOFILM. These seven lenses, which resemble the original Vespid primes but have a new golden coating, are available as a set. The benefits of modern lenses are combined with a historical appearance thanks to this unique coating.

With the release of their Linglung zoom lenses for MFT cameras in 2019, the Chinese lens company DZOFILM began selling cinema lenses. There are seven lenses in the DZOFILM Vespid Retro lens set: a 16mm T2.8 and a 25/35/50/75/100/125mm T2.1. Each lens weighs less than 1,000g and is housed in a unique silver aluminum housing.

From the outside, the Vespid and Vespid Retro appear to have identical mechanisms and features. So, to summarize:

  • The lenses’ 46.5mm image sensor coverage Easily 270-degree focusing rotation for full frame sensors
  • You can pick between the PL and Canon EF lens mounts for the user-interchangeable lens mount
  • Lens changes are straightforward thanks to the positioning of the focus/aperture ring
  • The front filter thread is 77mm in diameter and has an 80mm outer diameter

According to the company, the Vespid Retro has a new golden coating that gives it a “charming amber tint.” This golden coating produces an amber-hued, cool-blue-toned image that is particularly noticeable in lens flares. Additionally, skin tones typically respond favorably to this warm coating.

Only available as a set for $18.999, the DZOFILM Vespid Retro collection is a limited edition. By the end of this month, the seven lenses will begin to be shipped in a stylish carrying case. Vespid Retro lenses cost approximately $2,714. Comparing that to the “original” DZOFILM Vespid’s retail price of $1,399 can make it seem pricey.
