Hobolite Unveils the Micro Led Light

The Hobolite Micro is the fourth fixture from Hobolite, a Chinese company that is a relatively young player in the filmmaking LED lighting industry. A detachable Li-Ion battery powers this palm-sized bi-color LED light with a maximum power output of 8W and an approximate 50-minute runtime at full power.

The design of Hobolite LED lights quickly stands out. The exterior housing is primarily aluminum, and brown faux leather has been applied to both sides. The Hobolite Micro weighs only 235g and has 5.08 x 6.85 x 7.62 cm dimensions. The lamp is IP20-rated, which indicates that it is not water resistant but is resistant to dust or objects larger than 12mm. The Micro has a TLCI of 96+ and a CRI of 96+, according to Hobolite.

On the left side of the fixture, a single detachable Lithium-ion battery powers the Micro. The company claims you can use the light for 50 minutes at full power and 1.6 hours at 50%. The lamp also has a charging dock and two rechargeable batteries.

A small LCD screen with two knobs to change the light intensity/color temperature and navigate the menu can be found at the back of the fixture. A USB Type-C connector for charging the batteries is located below the screen.

A 1/4″-20 mounting point is included in the bottom of the Hobolite Micro’s quick-release plate in the form of a V-Mount design.

A few lighting modifiers included with the Hobolite Micro use magnets to fasten to the front of the light. A 20-45° adjustable lens, a frosted dome, a fresnel lens, some color filters, and a set of barn doors are all included in the box. The light’s maximum output, at 6,500K with the 20-45° lens in spot mode, is 462 lux at 1 meter.

The Hobolite Micro is available now for $159.99 and in a Creator Kit for $269.99.
