Insta360 Announces the World’s Smallest Action Camera Go 2

Insta360 today launched GO 2, a stabilized action camera that weighs in at just 27 grams — that’s less than an ounce.
Insta360 GO 2’s ultra-light body enables high-res, hands-free recording and lets creators effortlessly capture their perspectives — with none of the bulky, inconvenient accessories of a traditional action cam. Waterproofing and a replaceable protective lens ensure that it’s ready for every type of action.

The Go 2 uses a 1/2.3-inch image sensor at a maximum of 1440p resolution and 2000 x 2000 photos. Not a lot of resolution indeed, but that’s likely because of the extremely generous 6-axis stabilizer which likely uses a large portion of the sensor to digitally adjust for shake using its horizon leveling algorithms. If you’re willing to take a slight hit on resolution and drop below 4K — which other action cameras can capture and have been for some time — the Go 2 appears to make up for it in its incredibly tiny size and well-stabilized footage.

The Go 2’s camera component has a new removable lens cover and less slippery matte plastic housing. The case plays a more active role in the use of the camera, becoming a tripod, remote, external battery, and charger all in one. It is slightly larger than the AirPods Pro case and has a 1/4-inch thread for support mounting and a USB-C port for charging. The standalone camera can run for 30 minutes on a single charge or 150 minutes while in the case.

While the case is not waterproof, the Go 2’s camera is IPX8 water-resistant for use up to 13 feet underwater. In the box, Insta360 also includes three camera mounts: a pivot stand, a hat brim clip, and a pendant for wearing around your neck. All of these mounts utilize a magnet to keep the Go 2 attached to them.

GO 2’s companion app lets you preview your shot in real-time over WiFi and adjust settings on the fly. Once you’re done shooting, the app offers a full-featured editor to perfect your clips.
FlashCut 2.0 auto-edits your clips into a story, highlighting the best moments and editing them together on the beat to the music.

The Insta 360 Go 2 is available today for $300 and ships with a charging case, magnet pendant, easy clip, pivot stand, and lens guard.
