Kodak Unveils the H35N Ektar Half-Frame Film Camera

The new version, which is available in a range of colors, also includes a slew of improvements over the original.

“One series combines the CD-like metallic surface with vivid colors of blue, orange, and pink, giving a playful vibe,” the company says. “While another series is stripe patterned. It delivers a low-key lavish feeling with three options of black, silver, and green.”

The first Ektar Half Frame was released in the spring of 2022, allowing photographers to snap two photographs per 35mm film frame. It was a lot of fun and taught photographers how to create beautiful diptychs in analog. That camera, as well as the current H35N model, are made by Retopro and bear the Kodak name thanks to an official license with the firm. The H35N is the company’s third product under the Kodak name, following the first half-frame camera and a set of 1970s-inspired metal film cases released in 2020.

This new model expands on the popularity of the previous half-frame camera by introducing capabilities that provide photographers with more capture options.

The H35N includes a built-in star filter, bulb function, and tripod attachment, as well as an improved lens with a coated optic – all of which are common on reusable film cameras but uncommon when combined into one body. According to Retopro, the star filter adds unusual effects while shooting lighted objects, resulting in “dreamy” results. A knob to the left of the lens controls the filter’s activation and deactivation.

The Ektar Half Frame H35 can now capture long-exposure photographs thanks to the bulb feature and the redesigned tripod mounting hole. The lens is a two-element, coated 22mm f/8 prime lens with one aspherical acrylic lens. It can shoot in Bulb mode or at 1/100 second and has manual wind and rewind capabilities.

The Kodak Ekta H35N is available in six different hues, each with a different stripe pattern or metallic surface. The camera is constructed of a combination of plastic and aluminum.

Starting today, the Kodak Ektar H35N Half Frame reusable 35mm film camera is available for $65.
