Leica Adds Metal Gray Paint to Its Camera Lineup

Leica has announced a new finish called Metal Gray Paint, applied across three cameras and one M-mount lens. The company describes it as an extension of its existing color palette, which has historically been limited to black and silver, developed internally at the Leica factory in Wetzlar, Germany.

The three cameras receiving the Metal Gray Paint finish are the M11-P, the Q3, and the D-Lux 8, while the M-mount lens is the APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH. In all cases, the underlying specifications remain unchanged from the standard versions — the finish is the only modification.

The M11-P features a full-metal body with the new finish paired with black control elements. Leica is also offering a set of optional accessories designed around the new colorway: a matching battery, a protector and carrying strap in dark brown leather, and a multifunctional protector in smooth black leather with an ergonomic grip and an Arca-Swiss compatible base plate. The Q3 carries the same 60-megapixel sensor and integrated Summilux 28mm f/1.7 lens as the standard model, with the lens barrel remaining black. One visible detail change is the distance scale markings on the lens, which shift from yellow-orange to red. Finally, the D-Lux 8 features a gray main body and two gray rear function buttons, while the grip and remaining controls retain black — a two-tone result that Leica describes as deliberate contrast.

The M11-P and the APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH. are available now, priced at $10,400 and $9,900 respectively — both in line with their standard black counterparts. The Q3 and the D-Lux 8 in Metal Gray Paint are scheduled for release on July 16, 2026. The Q3 is priced at $7,350, matching the standard model; pricing for the D-Lux 8 variant has not been confirmed. Leica has not stated whether Metal Gray Paint will become a permanent addition to its standard range.
