Leica Unveils the Q2 “Dawn” by Seal Limited Edition Camera

Leica has unveiled the Leica Q2 “Dawn,” their newest limited-edition camera created in association with British singer-songwriter Seal. The camera is entirely black with a distinctive Japanese-woven fabric and will be limited to 500 pieces.

The Leica Q2 “Dawn” by Seal limited special edition pays homage to the deep lyrics of the musician’s songs. The special edition camera set celebrates the human connection in the art of making a photograph, shining light on the subjects of a frame – while the artist visualizes new perspectives behind the lens.  Each of the 500 cameras in the series is meticulously handcrafted with a distinctively different Japanese woven cloth cover.

Every Q2 “Dawn” by Seal is different because of the sophisticated cover fabric. The enigmatic, iridescent substance captures the distinct mood of morning twilight, the interplay of dark and light. The fabric was created in response to the Japanese word “komorebi,” which describes the transparency and light-play that take place when sunbeams pass through a forest canopy. The Q2 “Dawn” by Seal’s shimmering cover leaves a lasting impact and gives the camera its unmistakable personality.

Seal photographs with fast lenses in natural lighting conditions.  His photographs, in sync with his music, arouse feelings and shed light on the beauty and humanity of the present, in line with the aesthetic tenets of the limited edition set.

The set is finished off by a rope strap in addition to the one-of-a-kind scarf created by Annina Roescheisen and includes lyrics from Seal’s songs. The handwritten lyrics from Kiss from a Rose’s song “You became the light on the dark side of me” are also embossed on the chic strap. Seal received three Grammy Awards in 1996 for the song, which also peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 Charts. Along with the Hosoo iridescent fabric, the Q2 “Dawn” by Seal also has a black Leica logo, Seal’s signature inscribed on the display glass, and an edition number ranging from 001 to 500.

An special scarf created by multidisciplinary artist Annina Roescheisen serves as a stylish accent piece and wearable statement for Seal’s Q2 “Dawn” collection. With passages from his song lyrics printed in gold lettering on a black background, she decodes Seal’s message. This article of clothing is the perfect representation of a way of life that is characterized by music, emotion, and passion thanks to the artist’s creative application of the lyrics “You became the light on the dark side of me” from the song Kiss from a Rose and other handwritten lines from Seal’s unending repertoire. The exclusive scarf was created by New York fashion house rag & bone, which is known for its traditionally made, premium apparel, hand-crafted expertise, and love of detail.
