Leica Unveils the SL2-S Reporter Edition in Dark Green with an Aramid Fiber Coating

Leica has announced the SL2-S Reporter Edition, providing the camera with a robust exterior, including a scratch-resistant green paint finish and aramid fiber coating.

With the Leica SL2-S Reporter, Leica Camera AG presents a new product variant of the Leica SL2-S and thus pays the highest tribute to photo and video journalism. The robust design version, in which an M10-P, a Q2, and a Q2 Monochrome have already been released, meets the high requirements of the often adverse operating conditions of professional photography at any time. Due to its unobtrusive appearance, the reliable precision tool for photographing and filming makes it possible to become a part of the action without attracting attention and to concentrate exclusively on it thanks to its intuitive operation.

“Both photographic and video journalism captures many faces and tell a wide variety of stories. Whether it is social or cultural topics, outdoor and nature photography or political reportage – the sheer range of topics places a multitude of ever-changing demands on the equipment they need,” says the company on their website. “Witnesses who push their limits when on assignment accept no limitations from their camera and video equipment. That’s why the rugged Leica SL2-S Reporter is ready when you are. It withstands extreme temperatures, repels dust and water, and stands up well to rough handling. Its discreet design allows you to immerse yourself in action – unobtrusively – for authentic, vivid photos and videos. The SL2-S Reporter follows the established tradition of Leica’s Reporter-Design-Series, which is focused on one thing: documenting the variety of our world.”

The Leica SL2-S Reporter redefines the limits of resilience with its robust all-metal body, the particularly scratch-resistant paint finish in dark green, and the aramid fiber coating. Thus, it easily defies extreme temperatures, shocks, dust, and water and offers nature- and outdoor photographers, as well as photojournalists and press photographers, almost limitless possibilities. The resistant synthetic fiber aramid is also used to produce protective equipment. With its distinctive pattern of tightly interwoven fibers, the special armor provides not only an extraordinary look but also a considerably increased grip – for even more safety and stability when photographing and filming. In its technical characteristics, the design variant corresponds to the serial model Leica SL2-S.

The camera’s core parts, from a technical and photographic perspective, have not changed despite the external variations. The SL2-S, a 24.6-megapixel L-Mount full-frame mirrorless camera that was first unveiled in December 2020, was created with a focus on speed and video performance as opposed to the SL2, which was released the year before. The SL2-S has a 4GB buffer that enables more than 999 consecutive photographs to be taken without slowing down the shooting speed, and it has an ISO performance of up to 100,000. It is capable of 25 frames per second.

The SL2-S was also advertised as a powerful video camera that can record 4K video through HDMI at up to 60 frames per second in 10-bit 4:2:2. (via a full-size HDMI port). To enhance the frame rate, it uses HDMI out to shoot in real full-frame 4K up to 30p internally.  There’s no record limit.

The Leica SL2-S Reporter will be available globally at all Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and authorized dealers starting now. The retail price will be €5,290.00 including VAT.
