Leica Unveils the SL2 Silver Edition

Today, Leica has announced a new special edition variant of the top-of-the-line SL2 professional mirrorless camera. Limited to 1000 pieces worldwide, the SL2 Silver Edition features the same impressive specs as the standard all-black SL2. Taking a nostalgic twist, this design harks back to the vintage appeal of the classic Leica M and Leica R camera series, creating a camera with a sophisticated, timeless aesthetic.

The two-tone style is evocative of the silver Leica R system cameras, which were offered starting with the R3 in 1976 and continued through the R8, produced through 2002. Even further back, the Leicaflex of the 1960s, Leica’s first SLR camera, was also available in silver. Of course, silver variants of Leica M cameras have a long history, with the most recent being the M11. A silver-and-black Leica camera has an undeniably classic appeal, and the SL definitely nails the style.

Leica hardly ever offers unique versions of the SL, unlike its M and Q cousins, which have experienced numerous limited releases throughout the years. The SL2-S Reporter, which was published last year, was the first special edition, and the SL2 Silver Edition is actually the second.

The silver Leica SL2 boasts a silver anodized top plate and base plate, providing a striking contrast to the elegant black leather covering reminiscent of the Leica M11. The distinct, minimalist design highlights Leica’s commitment to functional elegance and haptic value, resulting in a camera that is as visually stunning as the images it captures. The SL2’s vintage-inspired look coupled with its state-of-the-art features makes it an appealing choice for customers who appreciate the charm of the past yet crave the advancements of the present. This product is limited to 1000 pieces worldwide.

Initial deliveries of the Leica SL2 Silver Edition will start within the next week for a price of $6,995 for the body only, $9,295 with the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 ASPH, or $13,995 paired with Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2 ASPH and M-Adapter-L.
