Light Lens Lab Previews Its First Apochromatic Lens

Light Lens Lab has announced the 35mm f/2 Apochromatic, its first lens in a new product category the company calls the Apochromatic Series Project. The lens marks a departure from the Chinese company’s previous output — which has focused on optical recreations of historical designs, such as the Ksana 35mm f/1.4 and the 75mm f/1.5 Z21 — toward an independently developed, modern optical formula intended for high-resolution digital sensors as well as film. It is a manual-focus prime for Leica M-mount cameras.

The optical formula comprises 11 elements in six groups, incorporating four aspherical elements alongside ultra-low dispersion and anomalous partial dispersion glass. The apochromatic correction brings red, green, and blue wavelengths to focus at the same plane, eliminating axial chromatic aberration — a priority the company emphasizes as central to the Apochromatic Series. A floating element design is included to maintain optical performance at close focusing distances, where aberrations typically worsen in fixed-formula lenses. A multi-layer coating is also applied for flare reduction and contrast retention. The aperture diaphragm runs from f/2 to f/16. Minimum focusing distance is 0.3 meters — notably close for an M-mount lens — and a rangefinder coupling is present for use on compatible Leica M bodies. The lens measures 40.9mm in length, weighs 327 grams, and includes a square lens hood that adds approximately 9mm to the overall length.

Two barrel configurations are offered: the standard version has a smooth focus ring, while a second version adds close-focus knurling for improved grip when working near the minimum focusing distance. Both configurations are available in black and silver chrome aluminum finishes. A limited-edition titanium version in titanium gray is also available, produced in a smaller run with pre-orders open until September 10, 2026.

The 35mm f/2 Apochromatic is available for pre-order now. The aluminum versions are priced at $2,049, while the titanium edition is $2,349. Shipping for versions without close-focus knurling is expected between September and November 2026, while the knurled versions are scheduled to follow between December 2026 and January 2027.
