Meike Releases AF 23mm f/1.4 APS-C Autofocus Prime
Meike has released the AF 23mm f/1.4, an autofocus prime lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras. It is available in Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Nikon Z mounts and provides an angle of view equivalent to approximately 35mm on full-frame systems, placing it in a general-purpose category commonly used for street, travel, and everyday photography.
The lens is based on an optical construction of 13 elements arranged in 11 groups and uses a nine-blade diaphragm. The Hong-Kong based company specifies a minimum focusing distance of 0.25 meters, allowing relatively close framing for a lens of this focal length. A 58mm filter thread is used, and a petal-shaped lens hood is supplied. The front element features water- and oil-repellent coatings intended to reduce smudging and simplify maintenance during outdoor use.
Autofocus is driven by an STM stepping motor, which is designed to operate quietly and smoothly for both still photography and video recording. The lens supports face and eye detection autofocus on compatible camera bodies and transmits full EXIF data. Meike also notes reduced focus breathing and low geometric distortion, suggesting an effort to accommodate hybrid shooting workflows.
Physically, the AF 23mm f/1.4 is compact and relatively light: it measures approximately 66.5 mm in diameter and 81 mm in length, with a weight of 298 grams for the Sony E and Fujifilm X versions and 302 grams for the Nikon Z version. The barrel includes a manual aperture ring and a dedicated AF/MF switch, features that are not always present in lenses at this price level. A USB-C port is integrated into the lens body to allow firmware updates without requiring a separate docking accessory.
The Meike AF 23mm f/1.4 is available now with a list price of $290 through Meike’s official sales channels and selected retailers.
