Meike Launches AF 58mm f/1.2 MIX Lens
Meike has introduced the AF 58mm f/1.2 MIX, a portrait-oriented autofocus lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras. The new model joins the company’s MIX series and is available for Sony E, Nikon Z and Fujifilm X mounts. Its 58mm focal length provides a field of view equivalent to approximately 87mm on a full-frame camera, placing it within the conventional short-telephoto range used for portrait photography.
The lens features a maximum aperture of f/1.2, allowing photographers to work with a relatively shallow depth of field and increased light transmission in low-light conditions. Its aperture range extends to f/16, while an 11-blade diaphragm is intended to maintain rounded out-of-focus highlights. According to Meike, the optical design has been developed to provide detailed subject rendering while controlling background transitions.
The optical construction consists of 14 elements arranged in 10 groups. The Hong-Kong based company describes the design as offering apochromatic-level correction, with particular attention to reducing chromatic aberrations and purple fringing around high-contrast subjects. The company also states that the lens is suitable for high-resolution sensors, although independent testing will be necessary to establish its actual performance across the image frame, particularly at wider apertures.
Autofocus is driven by an STM stepping motor and supports the face- and eye-detection functions of compatible camera bodies. The system is intended for both still photography and video recording, while manual focusing remains available through a dedicated focus ring. The minimum focusing distance is 0.62 meters, allowing relatively close portrait compositions without providing dedicated macro capabilities.
The exterior incorporates several physical controls, including an aperture ring that can operate with or without click stops. The latter setting allows smoother aperture adjustments during video recording. An aperture lock prevents accidental changes, while an AF/MF switch and a customizable function button provide direct access to additional settings. A USB-C port is also included for firmware updates.
The lens measures approximately 90mm in length and accepts 62mm screw-in filters. The Sony E and Fujifilm X versions weigh around 450 grams, while the Nikon Z version is slightly heavier at approximately 455 grams. As shown, Meike offers four exterior finishes: black, silver, white and a two-tone black-and-white configuration.
The Meike AF 58mm f/1.2 MIX is available through the manufacturer’s online store for $449. All four finishes are offered at the same price, while availability through additional international retailers is expected to expand following the initial release.
