NiSi Unveils a 15mm f/4 Super-Wide-Angle Sunstar Aspheric Lens

NiSi Optics, the Chinese manufacturer known mostly for making high-quality filters, has announced the release of its very first lens: a super-wide-angle 15mm f/4 Sunstar aspheric lens, which features a 112-degree field of view and the promise of edge-to-edge sharpness for Canon RF, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Sony E mount cameras.

This wide field of view combined with a really compact form factor making it the perfect companion for street and landscape photographers.

The 15mm f/4 features a unique aperture design that contains 10 straight blades allowing for Sunstars from f/4 to f/22 and optimal image quality throughout, so this breaks the paradigm of needing a small aperture to create a Sunstar.

Also, this fully-manual lens features all-metal construction and is comprised of 12 elements in 10 groups, including one double-sided aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion elements. The company says that brings low chromatic aberration, minimal distortion, and vignetting. Finally, the lens utilizes anti-reflection technology in order to improve light transmittance and reduce lens flare and stray light.

NiSi’s hard surface coating technology improves the toughness and waterproofing of glass elements.

NiSi says that the aforementioned 112-degree field of view is wider than the regular angle of view for a standard 15mm lens, and is actually equivalent to a 14.5mm lens. It has a relatively close focusing distance of 20cm which allows it to get strikingly close to subjects despite the wide-angle. The lens has a 72mm filter size and supports 100mm filter holder systems.
