Pergear has announced a manual-focus 50mm f/1.4 prime lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, available in Sony E, Nikon Z, L-Mount, and Canon RF. The lens is built around a six-element, six-group optical formula with a 12-blade aperture diaphragm and a minimum focusing distance of 0.6 meters.

The front filter thread is 52mm. The body is all-metal, measuring 43.5mm in length and weighing 255 grams — dimensions that are notably compact for a full-frame f/1.4 prime. By comparison, Nikon’s Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.4 is 45.4mm longer and 167 grams heavier, while Canon’s RF 50mm f/1.4 L VCM measures 99.1mm in length and weighs 580 grams.

The absence of autofocus is the primary reason the lens can be offered at this price and in this form factor. The tradeoff is straightforward: photographers who prioritize a fast aperture and compact size over autofocus convenience gain access to an f/1.4 prime at a price point well below any autofocus equivalent. Those who need autofocus for moving subjects or fast-paced shooting situations will need to look elsewhere.
