Philips Unveils a New 27-inch Creator Series Monitor
Philips’ new 27-inch Creator Series monitor appears to be positioned to provide value to visual artists and content makers seeking a high-resolution, color-accurate display at a reasonable price. The 27E2F7901 Philips Creator Series monitor has a 4K UHD resolution and an IPS Black Display display. Philips claims the monitor will display 100% of the sRGB color space and 98% of the DCI-P3 color space.
The 27-inch IPS display has 1.07 billion colors and is DisplayHDR 400 certified, which means the maximum brightness is 400 nits. This is not quite bright enough for high-end HDR video editing operations, but it is adequate for SDR video and photo processing.
The 7000-series 27-inch 4K HDR display offers a single HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 connection for inputs. Given that the HDMI connector is 2.0 rather than 2.1, it is not surprising that the monitor only supports 60Hz refresh rates.
The monitor also has four USB-A connectors and three USB-C 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 ports. One USB-C port can offer up to 96 watts of power. A second USB-C port can handle up to 15W of electricity. The monitor also has a 3.5mm audio output but no built-in speakers.
The display features a built-in KVM switch for users who need to control two devices simultaneously, allowing easy switching between two connected devices with a single keyboard and mouse. Philips also mentions that MacBook customers can use a single USB-C cable to extend their notebook’s built-in display and power their laptop.
While the new Philips 27-inch 4K monitor may lack some of the features and performance of more costly displays, it tries to give realistic colors on a large, high-resolution panel at an affordable price. The Philips Creator Series, especially for MacBook users on a budget, is an appealing alternative to Apple’s 5K 27-inch Studio Display, which starts at $1,599. Although Apple’s Studio Display is brighter and contains a built-in webcam, only a few individuals require all of those extras.
