SIGMA Introduces 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens for E and L Mounts

The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN Art is a new lens designed exclusively for full-frame Sony E and L-mount cameras. SIGMA’s Art line delivers high-level artistic excellence, focusing on superior optical performance and immense expressive force. The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art, a large-aperture standard lens created particularly for full-frame mirrorless cameras, is the latest addition to the F1.4 series, which has become synonymous with the Art brand. SIGMA has reexamined what is vital in a standard lens used in a wide range of shooting conditions while keeping the concept of the original SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art that defined the reputation of the Art F1.4 series.

This lens has achieved a high degree of compatibility between the ideal size and high-speed AF necessary for today’s mirrorless systems while preserving best-in-class optical performance by incorporating all the newest technologies. Aside from the brightness of the big F1.4 aperture and the large, gorgeous bokeh effect, different aberrations have been optimally managed in pursuit of uniform and balanced image quality across the whole image range, from the center to the frame’s boundaries. As a result, the new Art F1.4 50mm lens is genuinely all-around capable of expressive performance, agility, and usability and is designed to assist photographers in producing their greatest work.

The lens comprises 14 components in 11 groups, with three aspherical lenses and 1 SLD glass element, and is based on the most recent optical design technology. The lens effectively suppresses aberrations that cannot be corrected in-camera, such as astigmatism and field curvature. Despite the large aperture of F1.4, image formation performance on the image’s periphery has been pursued, and sagittal coma flare has been minimized to the extent that the lens can withstand even the most difficult star and night scenes, with demanding severe point light source imaging, from wide open. The vast, natural bokeh beauty of F1.4 may be fully utilized in photography, in addition to clear image clarity with no color blur over the whole image circle.

The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is the first lens in the Art line to use the “HLA” linear motor (High-response Linear Actuator) and is particularly developed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Furthermore, despite its huge aperture, the lens enables fast and silent focusing and outstanding tracking performance by employing a single double-sided aspheric lens as the focus element. The lens, which has a maximum aperture of 1.4 and a high-performance AF system, may be employed in various settings, including shooting in low light, moving subjects, snapshots, and even video.

The SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art was developed to slim down the lens barrel by reducing the weight of a focus lens and optimizing the lens unit layout to pursue the optimum size for mirrorless systems without compromising the maximum emphasis on the optical performance concept of SIGMA’s Art line. This lens has achieved high performance and the small size required for a portable photographic instrument.

The lens barrel has a Focus Mode switch, an Aperture ring click switch to turn the click on and off, an Aperture ring lock switch to prevent inadvertent operation, and an AFL button to designate any camera function. These features are intended to be used intuitively while shooting. The lens has a dust and splash-resistant structure, and the front element has a water and oil-repellent coating, making it appropriate for various shooting settings. The lens is tiny, lightweight, and simple while maintaining high build quality guaranteed by the Aizu factory’s dependable “Made in Japan” processing technology.

The 50mm F1.4 DN DG Art is 110mm (4.3″) in length, 78mm (3.1″) in diameter, and features a 72mm filter thread. It weights 670g (23.6oz).
