Sigma has announced the 85mm f/1.2 DG Art, a full-frame portrait prime for Sony E and Leica L mounts, completing what the company describes as a trio of f/1.2 Art primes alongside the 35mm f/1.2 DG Art II released in 2025 and the 50mm f/1.2 DG Art released in 2024. The 85mm is the longest f/1.2 lens Sigma has produced to date.

The optical formula is designed around suppressing the aberrations most problematic at maximum aperture: two SLD glass elements control axial chromatic aberration, while aspherical elements address spherical aberration and sagittal coma flare — the tendency of point light sources near the frame edges to smear asymmetrically at wide apertures. Sigma has also distributed the aspherical elements across the focus groups in a way that minimizes the number of elements within each focus group, which contributes directly to the lens’s weight figure. At 905 grams, the 85mm f/1.2 DG Art is lighter than both its direct competitors in other mount systems: Nikon’s Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S weighs 1,160 grams and Canon’s RF 85mm f/1.2 L USM weighs 1,195 grams. Neither Sony nor Panasonic nor Leica currently produces a native 85mm f/1.2 for E or L-Mount, leaving Sigma without direct competition on either system.

The aperture diaphragm uses 13 blades, producing circular out-of-focus highlights across most of the aperture range. Autofocus is handled by dual High-response Linear Actuator motors, which Sigma rates for both stills and video use. The focus group design has been optimized to minimize focus breathing — relevant for video applications where a noticeable change in field of view during focusing draws attention. Two AFL buttons are positioned on the barrel for access from different grip positions, and an aperture ring with a lock switch and de-click function is included. The construction is dust- and splash-resistant.
