Sony Is Developing a 300mm f/2.8 G Master Lens

In addition to the new 20-70mm F4 lens, Sony has announced the creation of a 300mm F2.8 G Master OSS telephoto lens for full-frame E-mount camera systems. Unfortunately, the lens won’t be available for at least a year, as Sony says the ‘planned launch date [will be] in early 2024.’

The new 300mm F2.8 G Master OSS lens will be inspired by Sony’s previous G Master telephoto lenses, such as the 600mm F4 G Master OSS and 400mm F2.8 G Master OSS, both of which we’ve found to be exceptionally fast and sharp, as expected from Sony’s high-end G Master portfolio.

Sony could not share any information regarding the lens other than that it will be released, which includes no details on size, weight, or projected pricing (or even a price range). The company refused to comment on potential lens features and supplied no photographs or renderings of what it might look like. Sony didn’t offer much more about the release date, just saying, “early calendar year 2024.”

How Sony handles this suggests that the timing is ideal for the 2024 Olympics.
