Tamron Announces the Development of 11-20mm f/2.8 Lens for Fujifilm X-Mount

Tamron is developing a lightweight, wide-angle zoom lens for Fujifilm X-mount, the 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060). The 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD is a compact zoom lens with a fixed f/2.8 aperture developed for Fujifilm’s APS-C sensor cameras. It is small and lightweight, yet balanced. Tamron claims the lens offers a 35mm full-frame equivalent zoom range of 16.5-30mm, making it suitable for everyday use.

“At the 11mm ultra wide-angle end, the lens allows stunning close-range shooting performance, achieving a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.15 meters (5.9 inches) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4,” Tamron says, adding that the close-focusing distance will allow photographers to capture wide-angle macro photos with the naturally occurring distortion that only wide angle lenses can provide.

Tamron’s RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor will power the autofocusing mechanism, which the company claims works well for still and video capture. The 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD will also include a moisture-resistant design and a Fluorine Coating, which the company claims will provide further protection when shooting outdoors.

“The compact size, fast f/2.8 aperture, practical zoom range and superb image quality make the 11-20mm zoom an ideal choice for travel, landscape, street, and general photography,” the company concludes.

Any additional technical information has not yet been released and will likely not be made public until the lens’s availability is determined. On that note, Tamron provided no information on when or how much the 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD will be available for purchase.

The lens is most likely similar to the 11-20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD it already offers for Sony E-mount — a lens that has been on the market since 2021. That lens was initially priced at $829 but is now available for $699.
