TTArtisan Launches 14mm f/2.8 Ultra-Wide Lens

TTArtisan has introduced the 14mm f/2.8 ASPH, a new ultra-wide-angle prime lens for full-frame cameras, available in Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF and L mounts. The lens provides a 114° field of view, making it suitable for landscapes, interiors, architecture, astrophotography and nightscapes in general, thanks to the maximum aperture of f/2.8, which makes it reliable in low-light conditions.

The lens design is fully manual, with no electronic communication between lens and camera, which means no EXIF data is transmitted. The aperture is stop-down only, remaining at the selected value rather than opening fully during composition. This setup favors genres where motion is limited, though the extreme depth of field at this focal length also allows hyperfocal techniques for more spontaneous shooting.

The construction is based on 5052 aerospace-grade aluminum, with a metal mount, a wide focusing ring and a thinner clicked aperture ring. Dimensions vary slightly depending on mount, with a consistent 65 mm diameter and a length between 75 and 80 mm; weight also differs depending on the mount, ranging from 437 to 445 grams. The lens includes a built-in hood and is supplied with a filter adapter that accepts 77 mm circular filters, addressing the common incompatibility between ultra-wide lenses and filter use.

Optically, the TTArtisan 14mm f/2.8 incorporates 13 elements arranged in 10 groups, including two aspherical elements and two high-refractive elements, designed to minimize distortion, spherical aberration and coma. The aperture has eight blades, producing sharp diffraction spikes from point light sources when stopped down. The lens can focus as close as 20 centimeters, enabling exaggerated perspectives at short distances, though it is not intended for macro use.

While the lens lacks weather sealing and autofocus, it offers a compact alternative in a category typically dominated by bulkier, more expensive designs. At a retail price of around $196 or €219, it enters the market as one of the most affordable full-frame ultra-wide primes currently available.
