Viltrox Announces 33mm and 56mm f/1.4 APS-C E-Mount Lenses

The Chinese manufacturer Viltrox has announced the release of its new AF 33mm F1.4 and 56mm F1.4 APS-C prime lenses for Sony E-mount camera systems.

Started to develop and manufacture camera accessories in 2007, Shenzhen Jueying Technology Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive photographic equipment enterprise which integrated product development, design manufacturing, and sales. Through Viltrox’s continuous efforts for many years, JYC had become one of the most competitive and influential companies in camera equipment industry in China.

The new 33mm F1.4 (approximately equal to a 50mm lens on a full-frame camera) features all-metal construction and comprises 10 elements in 9 groups, including one extra-low dispersion element and one high refractive index element. It features the option to manually or automatically control the aperture, a minimum focusing distance of 40cm, is equipped with a built-in micro USB interface for updating the firmware, and is compatible with Sony’s Eye AF technology thanks to its onboard stepping motor (STM) driving the autofocus.
There are some exceptions, like the entire NEX line and the a5000, but any of Sony’s a6000 line is fully supported in both still and video modes.
The lens measures in at 72mm long, 65mm diameter and weighs 270g.

Moving onto the 56mm F1.4 (equivalent to 85mm on a full-frame camera) classified by Viltrox as a portrait lens, it too features all-metal construction and also comprises 10 elements in 9 groups, including an extra-low dispersion element and a high fraction index lens. Viltrox doesn’t make mention of a close focusing distance.
The 56mm F1.4 also supports Sony Eye AF technology, has a built-in micro USB port for updating the lens’ firmware, and uses an STM motor for driving autofocus. The lens has the same compatibility with all modern APS-C E-mount cameras that the 33mm f/1.4 does, and likewise does not work fully with the NEX line or the a5000. The lens measures in at 72mm long, 65mm diameter and weighs 290g.

The Viltrox 33mm f/1.4 is available from the company’s online store for $259, while the 56mm f/1.4 is available for $299.
