Viltrox Completes f/1.4 Pro Series With 35mm Lens
Viltrox has announced the AF 35mm f/1.4 Pro, a full-frame autofocus prime lens for Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. The new model completes the company’s f/1.4 Pro series, joining the existing 50mm and 85mm lenses. With its moderately wide focal length and large maximum aperture, the 35mm version is intended for applications including documentary, street, portrait and low-light photography.
The optical construction consists of 16 elements arranged in 11 groups, including two ultra-precision aspherical elements, three extra-low dispersion elements and four high-refractive-index elements. According to Viltrox, the aspherical components are designed to reduce optical aberrations and minimize onion-ring patterns in out-of-focus highlights, while the ED elements address chromatic aberration and color fringing. The aperture diaphragm incorporates 11 blades, contributing to the rendering of out-of-focus areas.
Autofocus is controlled by Viltrox’s HyperVCM motor system, which uses a voice coil mechanism to move the focusing elements. The company states that the system provides rapid and precise focusing for still photography and video recording. The optical design is also intended to limit focus breathing, reducing changes in framing when the focus distance is adjusted during filming. However, the actual extent of these improvements will require independent testing. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 0.3 meters and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.18x.
The exterior features a matte black finish and weather-resistant construction, with sealing around several components to provide protection against dust and moisture. Physical controls include an aperture ring and an autofocus/manual-focus switch, while the front accepts conventional 77mm screw-in filters.
In terms of dimensions, the Sony E-mount version measures approximately 111mm in length and weighs 760 grams, while the Nikon Z-mount version is slightly longer at 112.5mm and weighs 780 grams.

The Viltrox AF 35mm f/1.4 Pro is available for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. Its standard retail price is $829 in the United States, while an introductory promotion reduces the price to $663 when purchased directly from Viltrox.
