Yongnuo Unveils the YN 85mm f/1.8R DF DSN Lens for Canon RF

Yongnuo has unveiled its new YN 85mm F1.8R DF DSM lens for Canon RF mount mirrorless camera systems. The lens appears to be all but identical to the company’s YN85mm F1.8S DF DSM lens for Sony E mount camera systems. The company claims that while the lens boasts a small and lightweight body, it does not skimp out on quality performance, and is designed for shooters who work in situations where they are holding the system for long hours like wedding and event photography and videography.

The lens is constructed of nine elements in eight groups, features a seven-blade aperture diaphragm, has a minimum focusing distance is 80cm, and, much like Canon’s own RF lenses, features a programmable control ring that can support functions such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, and supposedly allows users to quickly adjust the corresponding settings to improve the creative efficiency. This new lens also includes a click switch that, once enabled, makes adjustments on the control ring to have a clear sense of gear and an actual Click sound so users can clearly identify when changes have been made. Disabling the button will return the control ring to a silent operating mode.

Autofocus is driven by Yongnuo’s digital stepping motor and although Yongnuo doesn’t elaborate on precisely how weatherproof the lens is, there is a gasket on the mount, which should help it stay at least a little more protected when attached to a camera body. There’s also a USB-C port on the lens that’s used to update the firmware. The lens measures roughly 67mm in diameter, 88mm long, and weighs about 380g.

The 85mm f/1.8R DF DSN Lens for Canon RF Mirrorless systems from Yongnuo is currently available for $398 and comes packaged with a lens hood, and front and rear lens caps.
