Yellow and yellow wherever the eye goes. There are rows of sunflowers in the trees. Countless flowers blooming facing the sun are attracting beauty lovers to the village of Kamargaon on the banks of the Meghna River in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi.
Mr. Mohammed Taj, a farmer from Kamargaon village, has created a sunflower garden on an acre of land. Numerous nature lovers are flocking there every day to see the garden.
Mr. Taj has planted this garden with fertilizers and seeds from the Department of Agricultural Extension this year. Due to the garden, the village of Kamargaon has suddenly become famous this year. Throughout the day, crowds of people of all ages, especially the youth, enjoy the beauty of sunflowers in the garden, taking pictures and selfies.
Mr. Taj said, I have planted 10,000 saplings in the garden. It has cost about 30 thousand rupees. Excluding all expenses, the profit will be around 1 lakh rupees. We hope that sunflower cultivation will be more profitable than boro paddy or unripe rabi grains. The flowers will be ready for seed collection by March 30. Then the trees will be cut down and the seeds will be collected.
Tourists who come to see the sunflower garden say that it is human nature to enjoy the natural beauty. The garden is very beautiful. We like it. Such a large sunflower garden is not usually noticed. Seeing a young girl tourist, it seemed that she was a princess in the kingdom of yellow.
The Upazila Agriculture Officer said there is a huge potential for sunflower cultivation on high ground in the hilly areas.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer said bumper crop of sunflower has been harvested in this area. I am hopeful that Mr. Taj will benefit a lot by cultivating sunflower.
