Nocs Provisions Previews Screenless Portal AFN7

Nocs Provisions has introduced the Portal AFN7, its first digital camera, expanding beyond the binoculars and outdoor optics for which the California-based company is primarily known. The compact camera uses a screen-free design and an IP58-rated body, with an emphasis on simple operation and resistance to outdoor conditions.

The Portal AFN7 is built around a 1/2.3-inch, 16-megapixel CMOS sensor paired with a fixed 35mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens. Autofocus is available, while images are composed through an optical viewfinder rather than a rear display. The absence of a screen also means photographs cannot be reviewed directly on the camera, reducing the interface to a limited set of physical controls.

Images can be recorded using several built-in color profiles: Nocs refers to these as Film Profiles, with some designed to reproduce characteristics associated with Kodak film stocks. The camera also provides manual adjustment of parameters including ISO, exposure compensation and white balance, giving it more control than its simplified exterior initially suggests.

The body is IP58 rated, providing protection against dust and allowing immersion in water at depths specified by the manufacturer. Nocs has also designed the camera to operate across a broad range of outdoor conditions, distinguishing it from many inexpensive compact cameras that use similarly small sensors but lack substantial environmental sealing.

Photos are stored on microSD cards, while a USB-C connection handles charging and file transfer. The camera uses a removable rechargeable battery, and wireless connectivity allows images to be transferred to a smartphone through the company’s companion app.

The Nocs Provisions Portal AFN7 is priced at $179.95 and is available for preorder in several colors. Shipments are expected to begin in November 2026.
