7Artisans Expands the AF Max 135mm to E and L-Mount
7Artisans has extended the AF Max 135mm f/1.8 to Sony E and Leica L mounts, following the lens’s initial release for Nikon Z in May 2026. The optical and mechanical specifications are unchanged across all three mount versions.
The lens uses 16 elements in 13 groups, incorporating five high-refractive-index elements and six extra-low dispersion elements. The aperture diaphragm has 12 blades. Autofocus is driven by a stepping motor, minimum focusing distance is 0.68 meters, and the front filter thread is 82mm. The barrel includes an AF/MF switch, dual function buttons, a clicked aperture ring — in contrast to the smooth multi-function ring on the Nikon Z version, which was designed to replicate Nikon’s own control interface — and a USB-C port at the weather-sealed mount for firmware updates. The lens weighs approximately 1,014 grams and measures 136mm in length.

On Sony E-mount, the AF Max 135mm f/1.8 enters a field with several established competitors: Sony’s own FE 135mm f/1.8 GM is the reference lens in the category, though it is priced at $2,248. The Viltrox AF 135mm f/1.8 LAB sits at $899, and the Samyang and Rokinon variants — optically identical to each other — are available at $799 and $699 respectively. At $689, the 7Artisans lens is thus the least expensive autofocus 135mm f/1.8 currently available for Sony E-mount. On L-mount, the situation is simpler: the 7Artisans lens is the only autofocus 135mm f/1.8 available for that system, a gap that is notable given that both Samyang and Rokinon are members of the L-Mount Alliance.
The AF Max 135mm f/1.8 is available now for Sony E and L-Mount at $689.
