Lomography Refreshes Sprocket Rocket With New Colors
Lomography has expanded the range of its Sprocket Rocket panoramic film camera with two new DUOTONE color options, Mint Green and Pink. The update concerns only the camera’s appearance, while the underlying design and shooting features remain unchanged. Originally introduced in 2011, the Sprocket Rocket continues to target photographers interested in experimental analog photography through its panoramic format and distinctive method of exposing the entire width of 35mm film, including the sprocket holes.
The camera produces panoramic images with a 1:3 aspect ratio using standard 35mm film. Unlike conventional film cameras, it records the full film width, allowing the sprocket perforations to appear as part of the final image. Depending on the film used, a roll can produce up to 18 panoramic exposures. A removable frame mask is also included for photographers who prefer to exclude the sprocket holes from the composition.
Mechanically, the Sprocket Rocket remains a fully manual camera that requires no batteries. It features a fixed 30mm wide-angle lens, two selectable aperture settings (f/10.8 and f/16), a shutter speed of approximately 1/100 second alongside a Bulb mode for long exposures, and a simple two-zone focusing system covering distances from 0.6 to 1 meter and from 1 meter to infinity. A hot shoe allows the use of an external flash, while the unrestricted film advance mechanism makes multiple exposures and overlapping frames easy to create without additional controls.
The Sprocket Rocket has become one of Lomography’s longest-running cameras, largely because of its unconventional rendering and straightforward operation. Its plastic construction, fully mechanical design, and panoramic format encourage a more experimental approach than conventional 35mm compact cameras, with creative techniques such as long exposures, multiple exposures, and wide environmental compositions forming a central part of the shooting experience.
