Ricoh has announced the GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition, a limited-edition variant of the GR IV compact camera released in September 2025. The announcement marks the thirtieth anniversary of the original Ricoh GR1, the film compact camera that launched in October 1996 and established what would become one of the most enduring product lines in the premium compact camera segment. The GR1 was notable at the time of its release for combining a high-quality lens with a genuinely pocketable body — a combination that has defined every subsequent GR model and remains the series’ central premise.

The 30th Anniversary Edition makes no changes to the underlying hardware or imaging specifications of the standard GR IV. The modifications are entirely cosmetic and collectible in nature: the shutter release button and rear control buttons are finished in a paint color referencing the original GR1, while a special lens ring cap designated GN-3 (30th) with a diamond-cut finish ships attached to the camera. A dedicated power-off screen displaying a 30th anniversary design is included, as it has been on other special edition GR IV variants.

The bundle accompanying the camera includes a metal hot shoe cover and a finger strap, both designated with the 30th anniversary branding, as well as a set of pin badges Ricoh describes as inspired by successive models in the GR series. The hot shoe cover (GK-2 30th) and the finger strap (GS-4 30th) will also be sold separately. A compatible hot shoe cover for the GR III and GR IIIx will be made available at a later date.
