Samyang Unveils the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 All-Rounder Zoom Lens

Samyang has unveiled a new 35-150mm f/2-2.8 lens for Sony E-mount that has a huge zoom range generally associated with all-in-one style kit lenses but with a quick variable aperture that is uncommon in that sector. According to the company, the lens is made to cover the 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm, and 150mm focal lengths in one lens without going over an f/2.8 maximum aperture. Samyang adds that it is designed to be a quick all-arounder that can handle various shooting situations, from travel to portraits.

“Samyang has moved a step forward with its second zoom lens to provide a more convenient user experience. The lens is remarkably versatile as an all-rounder with a fast maximum aperture and provides solutions for photographers seeking to avoid changing lenses,” the company says. “Whilst primarily designed for portrait photographers, the wide zoom range is also useful for everyone shooting commercials, events, and travel imagery.”

According to the manufacturer, the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 lens is totally weather-sealed at the mount and all around its body, specifically at 12 locations, which guards against damage or contamination from dust, light rain, and snow.

Including one hybrid aspherical, two aspherical, three high refractive, and six extra-low dispersion glass elements, the lens comprises 21 elements grouped into 18 groups. Samyang claims it can offer clear photos from edge to edge thanks to its unique lenses. Additionally, it has received a treatment known as Ultra Multi-Coating (UMC), which lessens flare and ghosting.

The lens’s rapid aperture, which is provided by a nine-bladed diaphragm and ranges from f/2 to f/2.8 through f/16, may be its main selling point outside of its broad zoom range. According to Samyang, a subject can be completely separated from the background using a fast maximum aperture, independent of the focal length.

According to Samyang, the lens uses a linear stepping motor to assist autofocus, which offers both precision and high-speed response when taking pictures and movies. Additionally, it has a minimum focusing distance of only 0.33 meters at 35mm and 0.85 meters at 150mm.

Four other features, according to Samyang, are Dolly Zoom Shot, Cinematic Video AF, Linear MF Focus Control, and Digital Parfocal. Depending on the chosen mode, the lens can offer varying degrees of assistance for cinematic shots.
In other words, the lens can be set to operate for particular types of photographs based on what mode it is in and how the Samyang Lens Station attachment has been used to modify it.

Here are a few examples of pictures made with the lens:
