Valoi Introduces the Easy35 Home Film Scanning System

Valoi has introduced the Valoi easy35 home film scanning solution which is available on IndieGoGo. The easy35 has a completely new design factor compared to the Valoi 360, unveiled in 2020 and promises even simpler and more accessible film scanning.

“The Valoi easy35 was designed to revolutionize film scanning at home, making it quick, easy, and affordable,” explains Valoi. According to the company, anyone may scan film at home using only a digital camera and macro lens. The built-in LED light of the Valoi easy35 can be recharged by USB-C and guarantees hours of scanning. The light source is an 81-bead, CRI 95+ rated bi-color LED with extremely high brightness. Due to the nearly full spectrum of light output, the CRI 95+ renders colors in a realistic, natural way.

All interchangeable lens cameras and most macro lenses are compatible with the system. There is no need for additional light because the Valoi easy35 has a high-quality light source built within it. The system does not need a stand or a different film holder.
According to Valoi, the plug-and-play scanning method is up to 10 times faster than a flatbed scanner, and the little machine easily fits in a camera bag.

Special holders can be added to the provided film holder to scan film formats other than 35mm. The formats of the holders, which include a regular 35mm holder, a 35mm slide holder, and a 35mm holder with sprockets, can be changed in a matter of seconds. More formats are being developed, according to Valoi.

Valoi suggests a macro lens on full-frame cameras with a focal length between 40mm and 105mm. 30-70mm should be suitable for APS-C cameras. A 20-60mm focal length is advised for the even smaller sensor of Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Users can take pictures of a roll of 35mm film in three to four minutes using a matching macro lens. It will take an additional five to ten minutes to turn those photographs into positives. A conventional flatbed scanner, on the other hand, might take anything from 30 minutes to almost three hours.

Users can choose between three scanning settings with the inbuilt bi-color LED: warm for slides, moderate or neutral for black and white film, or cold for film negatives. Expected shutter speeds with the built-in light source range from 1/30s to 1/160s, depending on the settings on the digital camera and the film being scanned. The film is completely encased in darkness within an anti-reflective tube because the easy35 is shielded from outside light.

The Valoi easy35 is offered with special IndieGoGo pricing for $174, a 20 percent reduction from the final retail price of $217. The easy35 kit includes the easy35 unit, a standard tube set (110mm), the easy35 35mm holder, and a filter thread. There are add-on possibilities for extra holders, adapters, and tube lengths.
