Sony has introduced the Xperia 10 VIII, its latest mid-range smartphone and a relatively minor update over last year’s Xperia 10 VII. The new model retains the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 5,000mAh battery, while the 6.1-inch OLED display now offers around 50% higher brightness. Sony has also revised the front stereo speakers, increasing overall volume and bass response, while the body remains relatively compact at 168 grams and retains IP65/IP68 protection.

The limited changes extend to the camera system, which is essentially carried over from the previous generation. The Xperia 10 VIII uses a dual-camera arrangement built around a 50-megapixel main sensor in the Type 1/1.56 format, paired with a 24mm-equivalent f/1.9 lens. Rather than including a dedicated telephoto camera, Sony uses a 2x crop from the main sensor to provide a 48mm-equivalent field of view.

The second rear camera is a 13-megapixel ultrawide with a smaller Type 1/3 sensor and a 16mm-equivalent focal length, while an 8-megapixel camera handles selfies and video calls. As a result, the phone covers ultrawide, standard and short-telephoto perspectives, although only two physical rear cameras are used. There are no significant sensor, lens or imaging hardware upgrades compared with the Xperia 10 VII.

Video specifications are similarly conservative, with the Xperia 10 VIII remaining positioned below Sony’s more photography-oriented Xperia 1 series. The brighter OLED display may nevertheless be useful when framing photos and video outdoors, addressing one of the practical limitations of smartphone shooting in strong daylight.
