CatLABS Unveils the New Emulsion Ideal for Street Photography X Film 320

A brand-new black and white film emulsion from CatLABS has been released, promising distinctive grain and tonal range to create images that are, according to the manufacturer, unlike anything else on the market.

Distributor of film and photographic gear specializing in large format photography, CatLABS is situated in Boston, Massachusetts. As one of the few locations in the world solely focused on large-format photography, CatLABS claims to provide a vast selection of cameras, lenses, film holders, tripods, film, and all other relevant accessories. In addition, it provides film processing services and is currently making its own.

The new emulsion, CatLABS X FILM 320 Pro, is available in 35mm and 120 film formats and is entirely exclusive to CatLABS; unlike previous films, it cannot be purchased from any other manufacturer in another packaging. According to the manufacturer, this new black-and-white film was produced with the strictest quality control, putting it on par with other big film producers and bringing exceptional image quality and distinctive features.

According to its description, Film 320 Pro is a traditional, medium-speed film for various shooting situations. Still, because of its adaptability and how it produces images, it excels as a street film.

“Following in the footsteps of some classic historic films, CatLABS X FILM 320 is characterized by its distinct grain quality, contrast and tonal range, not found with other currently available films,” CatLABS says.

According to the manufacturer, the film has a wide exposure latitude and produces distinctive deep grey tones with an appearance that is almost metallic or silvery. It is suitable for low light or available light situations.

“For best results, rate it at 200 ISO when shooting outdoors under bright sunlight. Push it as high as 1600 when shooting under artificial or low light conditions,” the company says.

CatLABS has a thorough set of processing guidelines for the FILM 320 on their website for individuals who process their film at home or wish to give precise directions to their developer. The new Film 320 Pro is available in 35mm or 120 format single rolls for $6.78 or in a 10-pack for $65.
