DJI Ronin 4D-8K Released

The Ronin 4D-8K is a new model of DJI’s Ronin 4D professional cinema camera platform. The new Zenmuse X9-8K gimbal camera module is available for the DJI Ronin 4D-8K combo. This gives the Ronin 4D full-frame video at up to 8K 60fps (or 8K 75fps in 2.39:1) and 4K 120fps in ProRes RAW. The Zenmuse X9-8K also has a 9-stop built-in ND filter and is compatible with the LiDAR focusing system.

“Empowering creators with cutting-edge technology has always been at the heart of DJI’s mission,” says DJI Senior Product Line Manager Paul Pan. “The Ronin 4D-8K stands as a testament to our dedication to delivering unparalleled imaging solutions and providing creators with the tools they need to bring their visions to life with exceptional clarity and brilliance.”

The Zenmsue X9-8K can shoot 8K at up to 60fps (DCI, 17:9) or 75fps (DCI, 2.39:1), 4K full-sensor at up to 120fps (DCI, 17:9), or 5.5K with Super35 crop at up to 60fps (DCI, 17:9) in ProRes RAW. ProRes 422 HQ also supports 8K up to 30fps and 4K 120fps. H.264 recording modes are also available for 4K recording.

DJI claims a dynamic range of up to 14.7 stops for the Zenmuse X9-8K. The new Ronin also features DJI Cinema Color Science (DCCS), which guarantees natural skin tones even in low-light situations. “Tailored for professional aerial and ground-based imaging equipment, DCCS unlocks boundless creative possibilities by vividly reproducing the kaleidoscopic colors perceived by the human eye,” the company says.

DJI claims that the DCCS color engine uses a new algorithm that provides better tonal transitions, high bit-width internal color, and high-precision LUT processing.

Along with DCCS, DJI created the CineCore image processing technology to optimize post-production procedures. CineCore, like the DJI Inspire 3, features a proprietary chip and advanced CPU to enable 8K footage in several formats, including Apple ProRes RAW, ProRes 422 HQ, H.264, and CinemaDNG.

DJI also said the Ronin 4D-8K can operate with ARRI movie cameras and supports the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) workflow.

“With its film-consistent symmetrical dynamic distribution, DCCS preserves delicate and natural transitions in highlight areas, making it the ideal choice for filmmakers seeking unparalleled image quality and color grading flexibility,” DJI states in a press release.

The Ronin 4K-8K combination set contains the Ronin 4D Main Body, the Zenmuse X9-8K Gimbal Camera, a ProSSD 1TB, ProSSD mount, hand grips, top handle, high-bright main monitor, TB50 intelligent battery, LiDAR Range Finder, DJI Ronin 4D RAW licensing key, and other accessories. The total cost of the package is $12,838.

The new Zenmuse X9-8K Gimbal Camera is also available for $3,599 and comes with a protective case, base cap, and DL Mount body cap.
