Fotodiox RhinoCam Vertex Adapters for L-Mount

The RhinoCam Vertex stitching adapters from Fotodiox have been available for some time, but the firm has recently released an L-mount version. The RhinoCam Vertex adapter line connects modern full-frame cameras to medium format lenses, allowing photographers to shoot four photographs while rotating the camera 360 degrees, which can then be stitched together to make a 66-style shot. When the camera is rotated on the adapter, photographers get the full benefit of medium format lenses’ big picture circle without requiring a medium format camera.

The objective is to give any camera the potential to make “medium format-like” photographs with relative simplicity and for far less money. The first RhinoCam adapters were released in March 2021, and they supported Nikon, Canon, and Sony bodies as well as a variety of medium format mounts.

“Capable of creating the dramatic full 6×6 medium format images previously reserved for photographers working with expensive medium format back cameras, RhinoCam Vertex is ideal for landscape, commercial, and architectural photographers seeking remarkably high resolution at a fraction of the cost,” Fotodiox says. “The lens remains firmly in place while the RhinoCam Vertex’s moving platform positions the sensor for multiple precisely positioned exposures. After the capture process, it takes seconds to merge the multiple exposures into one larger image using automated stitching functionality built into Adobe Photoshop and other software offerings. RhinoCam Vertex images are finalized using the more accurate flat stitching method, avoiding the perspective errors and curvilinear distortion present in images joined via spherical stitching often found with motorized systems that move both camera body and lens.”

These adapters are now available for Leica L-mount, a brand alliance that has grown in recent months. Blackmagic joined the L Mount Alliance earlier this month, following Samyang and Astrodesign, who both joined in July. What was once a small cooperation comprising Leica, Sigma, and Panasonic has evolved to include eight firms in total.

The RhinoCam Vertex from Fotodiox is available in five L-mount configurations: Pentax 645 mount, Mamiya 645 mount, Hasselblad V-mount, Bronica ETR mount, and Pentax 647 mount. All three solutions cost $300 and may be purchased directly from Fotodiox’s website.
