Polaroid Presents Hi-Print 3×3 Portable Photo Printer

American company Polaroid has introduced the Hi-Print 3×3, a portable photo printer designed to produce square-format prints directly from smartphones. The device expands the company’s existing Hi-Print lineup, positioning itself between smaller and larger rectangular formats while maintaining a focus on compact, mobile use.

“People have so many meaningful memories and mementos captured on their phones: photos, screenshots, conversations, notes, and they’re just sitting there, locked inside a device. We wanted to give them more life, make it so you can hold and display them, really live with them. The Hi-Print 3×3 was built around exactly that. It’s a completely new design for us, a printer that’s also a display frame, so your favorite moments can sit on your desk, be passed to someone you love, or change with your mood. There’s nothing else like it out there,” Chief Product Officer Stine Bauer Dahlberg said.

The printer produces 3×3-inch images using dye-sublimation technology, which transfers color onto paper through heat, thus resulting in prints that are more resistant to smudging and fading compared to Zink-based solutions. The output is borderless, differing from the traditional Polaroid instant film aesthetic, and each print includes a peelable adhesive backing, allowing it to function as a sticker.

The device connects to smartphones via Bluetooth and operates through a dedicated mobile application available for iOS and Android, that provides basic editing functions, including filters, templates, and graphic overlays, enabling users to modify images before printing. The workflow separates image capture and processing, which are handled by the smartphone, from the physical output stage.

A notable aspect of the Hi-Print 3×3 is its dual-purpose design. When not in use as a printer, it can hold a printed image within its body, effectively functioning as a small display frame. This approach reflects an attempt to integrate the device into everyday environments beyond its primary function.

The printer measures approximately 103 × 131 × 30 millimeters and weighs around 390 grams. It is powered by a rechargeable battery charged via USB-C, allowing for portable operation. Consumables are provided in cartridge form, with each cartridge containing a fixed number of prints.

The Hi-Print 3×3 is now available, with pricing set around the $120 range, with additional costs associated with replacement print cartridges.
