Viltrox Expands Evo Line with Two New f/1.8 Primes
Chinese company Viltrox has expanded its Evo lineup with two new prime lenses unveiled at NAB Show 2026 in Las Vegas: the AF 35mm f/1.8 Evo and the AF 55mm f/1.8 Evo. Both are available for Sony FE and Nikon Z mounts and represent the first entries in the Evo series to feature an apochromatic optical design.
The APO construction aligns red, green, and blue wavelengths onto a common focal plane, which reduces color fringing and chromatic aberration in high-contrast situations. Both lenses are built around 13 optical elements — arranged in 10 groups for the 35mm and 9 groups for the 55mm — incorporating extra-low dispersion glass, high-refractive-index elements, and a UA element that Viltrox also uses in its flagship Lab series. The result is a correction of both lateral and axial chromatic aberration across the frame.
The 35mm, with its 63-degree field of view, is positioned as a general-purpose focal length suited to street photography, travel, and environmental portraiture; it focuses as close as 0.34 meters. The 55mm takes a narrower 43-degree perspective, closer to what is often described as a natural human field of view, and has a minimum focusing distance of 0.43 meters. Both lenses open to f/1.8, with a 9-bladed aperture diaphragm.
Physically, the two lenses are nearly identical in size and share a 58mm filter thread and all-metal construction. The 35mm weighs around 355 grams in Sony E-mount and the 55mm approximately 370 grams, with Nikon Z versions running about 20 grams heavier in each case. Both measure around 76mm in length. Autofocus is driven by a stepping motor designed to operate quietly and support continuous subject tracking, and physical controls include an aperture ring with a click/de-click switch, a customizable function button, an AF/MF toggle, and a USB-C port on the mount for firmware updates. A rubber-sealed mount and a smudge-resistant front coating offer basic weather resistance.
The two new lenses join the existing AF 85mm f/2.0 Evo, which launched in October 2025, to form a three-lens prime set covering focal lengths commonly used in both still photography and video production. The shared dimensions and unified filter size are intended to minimize workflow disruption when switching between focal lengths, which is a practical consideration for hybrid shooters using the same accessories across multiple lenses.
