Exascend Announces New 240GB CFexpress Type A Cards

Exascend has announced a new series of CFexpress Type-A memory cards whose specifications match both Sony’s and Prograde Digital’s promised performance but offer a lower price and a new industry-highest capacity of 240GB. It is the highest-capacity CFexpress Type A card on the market, with those from Delkin, ProGrade Digital, Sony, and others topping out at 160GB.

The company says that its CFexpress Type-A cards, which come in 120GB, 180GB, and 240GB capacities, offer a maximum read speed of 800MB/s and a maximum write speed of 700 MB/s. More importantly, the cards promise a sustained write speed of 550 MB/s.

The cards feature Exascend’s proprietary SmartStream technology that minimizes energy usage through dynamically-scaled CPU draw that matches the used power to the required power based on what’s being written to the card. It also uses Exascend’s Adaptive Thermal Control technology and SuperCruise technology, which manage the thermals and sustained writing performance.

Exascend says the 120GB, 180GB and 240GB Essential CFexpress Type A cards will retail for $190, $300 and $400, respectively. Each card comes with a five-year warranty. The cards are expected to be available soon, although no specific timeframe is provided.
