Irix Unveils a Cine 65mm T1.5 Lens

Irix, the lens manufacturer, has unveiled the fifth lens in its cinematographer portfolio, the Irix Cine 65mm T1.5. This lens promises exceptional performance and versatility to filmmakers of all genres.

Irix created this new lens using “a blend of conventional lens solutions and cutting-edge innovation.” It is built of aluminum and magnesium alloy and has weather-sealed construction, making it very durable. Depending on the mount, the lens weighs around 1446 grams. That weight is comparable to other Irix lenses, making it easier to swap lenses when using a gimbal. It’s relatively tiny for a 65mm, making it easy to transport.

The Irix Cine 65mm T1.5 features an external diameter of 95mm for barn doors and other attachments and an 86mm filter thread. It employs the company’s front Magnetic Mount System (MMS) to enable faster filter and accessory changes. Users can also use the Irix Mate Box IQ. Additionally, the geared Mod 0.8 M rings are compatible with the majority of available accessories.

The lens design has 11 rounded aperture blades for excellent bokeh and an aperture range of T1.5 to T16. The internal focusing system prevents the lens from changing length, making it perfect for gimbal and camera rig applications. Additionally, Irix offers minimum concentration breathing and low distortion. It has a neutrino coating, as do the rest of the company’s lenses, to ensure uniform color reproduction throughout the portfolio. The etched markings on the lens are filled with UV-reactive paint, making them easier to view in low-light circumstances.

The Irix Cine 65mm T1.5 lens is available for many camera systems, including Canon EF, Canon RF, Fuji X, L-mount, MFT, Nikon Z, PL-mount, and Sony E mounts. This adaptability means that the lens is appropriate for cinematographers working with a variety of camera systems, giving them the freedom they require. Furthermore, it supports 8K resolution and has full-frame sensor coverage. The lens’s focal length and quality make it suitable for a variety of genres, including cinematic portraits, narrative and documentary filmmaking, commercial use, and music productions.

The Irix 65mm T1.5 is currently available for pre-order for between $1,296 and $1,405, depending on the mount.
