KIOXIA Unveils the 2TB microSDXC Memory Card

KIOXIA, an SDAssociation member, has recently announced the start of mass manufacturing for its 2TB microSDXC memory card.

Previously, microSDXC memory cards could only hold up to 1.5TB of data and were manufactured solely by SanDisk and Micron. The new XCERIA PLUS G2 2TB microSDXC memory card increases storage capacity for smartphone owners, content makers, and on-the-go gamers.

KIOXIA successfully created a 2TB microSDXC UHS-I memory card using proprietary manufacturing technologies, incorporating BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory and an in-house built controller. Though the SD Association’s SDXC specification has enabled memory cards up to 2TB for almost a decade, KIOXIA met this obstacle by stacking sixteen 1 terabit dies of 3D flash memory while adhering to the specification’s maximum thickness of 0.8 mm.

The card claims to provide read and write speeds of up to 100 MB/s and 90 MB/s, respectively. The EXCERIA PLUS G2 2TB microSDXC memory cards are rated UHS Speed Class 3 (U3), Application Class 1 (A1), and Video Speed Class 30 (V30).

The 2TB capacity allows users to record over 41 hours of video at 100Mbps, making them ideal for high-volume data recording applications such as action cameras.

The market debut of EXCERIA PLUS G2 2TB microSDXC memory cards is set to commence in the coming quarter, but pricing has yet to be determined.
