Pergear Unveils a Budget-Friendly 1TB CFe Type-A Card for Sony Cameras

Pergear has added a new 1TB CFexpress Type-A solution to its CFexpress Type-A library, continuing its efforts in low-cost storage alternatives geared to suit Sony’s most current mirrorless cameras. While it first entered the CFexpress memory card market in October 2022, it only supported CFexpress Type-B cards. While it is more prevalent, Sony elected not to adopt it for its cameras, instead opting for the smaller and slightly slower Type-A format.

That didn’t last long, as Pergear added CFexpress Type-A support in June. Initially, Samsung only provided 80GB, 260GB, and 520GB cards that weren’t exactly as cheap as Type-B cards but weren’t crazily costly either — a problem that Sony photographers have been burdened with for years due to a lack of options.

Pergear now supports Sony shooters and provides them with a massive amount of storage capacity: 1TB. Until now, few companies have offered the CFexpress Type-A cards at all, let alone at such a high capacity — only Angelbird has done so, and only since April.

Looking at how Pergear prices its cards, it’s evident that components or manufacturing are restricting how much lower the budget brand can go because its 1TB card is only marginally less expensive than Angelbird’s at $479 – Angelbird asks $500. Nonetheless, both offer a significant reduction over Sony’s $998 640GB memory card.

Even though it isn’t significantly cheaper than the only other option, Pergear is the most economical high-capacity CFexpress Type-A card. And, while the company isn’t commonly connected with storage (and may still be somewhat unknown in the photographic world), its CFexpress Type-B cards have performed admirably. Any manufacturing sacrifices made by Pergear are minor, and most photographers will not notice the difference between its cards and more expensive ones in the field.

Pergear says the cards will have a maximum read speed of 800 MB/s and a maximum write speed of 700 MB/s, which is standard for CFexpress Type-A cards. The company also claims constant speeds, claiming that it can capture up to 4K at 120 frames per second and 8K at up to 30 frames per second.

Pergear’s CFexpress Type-A cards, including the new 1TB capacity card, are now available for purchase through Amazon or Pergear’s web store. They come with a five-year warranty.
