JM Ramirez-Suassi: Malparaíso

“Malparaíso” is a thought-provoking photography book by JM Ramirez-Suassi. The hardback first edition contains 160 pages and is a new release. This book delves into the intricate concept of space as a maze where every path leads to another, creating an endless web of connections. Through a series of photographs that traverse undefined routes and cross unseen boundaries, the images stretch in all directions, linking together to form a network of landscapes, people, and intriguing scenes. “Malparaíso” conjures the image of a mythical place—an already lost Eden—that plays a crucial role in the artistic experience. The portrayal of the world is fragmented, presenting snippets that hint at deeper narratives and evoke a sense of subtle melancholy, painting a vivid scene of our aimless wanderings and reflective lethargy.
“Exploring the classic motif of paradise, years ago I embarked on a journey that is as broad as it is personal, where racism, identity, migration, nature under siege, violence and precariousness always appear as the firm guiding threads of my photographs. My images suggest rage and pain, but also express the beauty, hope and humanity that are part of a complex reality” ( JM Ramirez-Suassi)
