Viltrox’s 75mm f/1.2 for Sony and Nikon Cameras

Viltrox has released the 75mm f/1.2 lens originally designed for the Fujifilm X-Mount in Nikon Z and Sony E mount variants. The new Sony E mount and Nikon Z mount models are nearly identical in terms of optical quality, weight, and size, except for a new Custom Button and the ability to modify the aperture to have clickless or hard stops.

The Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 AF lens is a fast, portrait-length prime with improved autofocus capabilities, professional handling, and reliability. It boasts a wide maximum aperture and a small depth of field and is said to be able to produce incredibly sharp images and perform well in low light. You can rapidly switch between manual and automatic focusing modes with an easily accessible MF/AF switch and a newly developed STM stepping motor that offers quick and accurate autofocus performance. The lens also offers extra automated focusing settings, eye and facial autofocus, and animal autofocus.

The performance on Nikon Z and Sony E APS-C cameras should, theoretically, be comparable because the optical formula is the same—it has a construction of 16 elements arranged in 11 groups, including four high-refractive index lenses. The lens includes an 11-bladed diaphragm with an aperture range of f/1.2 to f/16, a minimum focusing distance of 0.88 meters (approximately 34.6 inches), and an STM screw-based autofocus technology. The front filter is 77mm in size, and all focusing is internal.

Viltrox also guarantees professional-level water and dust resistance, a term that isn’t always used in the same ways by different camera manufacturers (for example, what OM System means by water and dust resistant is very different from what Sony means), but the company claims it can withstand dust and water droplets.

The Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 is now available for $549.
